Bartonella Bacteria Outbreak

   Bartonella Bacteria Outbreak http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/11/081123222844.htm#

After recent studies done at multiple locations scientists have been answering the question do rats carry the disease causing fleas that harm us. The fleas carry a kind of bacteria that cause heart disease and other illnesses in humans. This kind of flea has been found in brown rats that are located in Europe.

Scientists have been carrying out several studies concerning the outbreak. One of the studies included taking a sample of several different kinds of rodents and the bacteria they were possibly carrying. The results showed that the rodents were not for sure carrying  Bartonella rochimalimae but were definitely passing unfriendly bacteria along.

After a patient had been positive for having the Bartonella rochimalimae it gave scientists something to look for in their studies. The patient had an enlarged spleen which is an effect of the bacteria. By researching the effects of the bacteria and the bacteria itself,  scientists can have a better understanding of how to prevent further illnesses from spreading.

Should the U.S be involved in finding a cure for the bacteria? Should we help with the investigation of the bacteria? Do you think that a bacteria like this could become a plague? Why would this particular bacteria raise concern about our health?

I think that the U.S.A should definately aid in the investigation of the bacteria. If the bacteria were to get out of control in one country it wouldn’t take long for it to spread here and infect fellow Americans. With air planes and the technology we have an extremely high rsik of getting the bacteria. An example would be a business man could be in Asia, get the virus (not knowing he had it) would get on a plane to America to return home. Then he would get home realizing he had it. Then it would spread and we would have a crisis.

Yes I think that the U.S. should be involved in helping investigate and to find a cure for the bacteria. I doubt that the bacteria could come close to the pleage because we are more advanced in technology that before it could kill millions of people we would have our top doctors trying to find the cure. It dose raise question about our health because if the bacteria dose break out and spread wildly without doctors finding any leads to a cure it wouldn’t be good and the fact that it attacks your spleen dosen’t help eather.

I definetly believe that this bacteria, if it someone did get it, would spread, but I don’t think we should be overly concerned. Its just another disease that we could cure if we don’t have a way too already. Its just like the swine flu. Everyone freaked out because it was something new but now we know its no worse than the regular flu.

Yes, I believe the U.S. should be involved in finding a cure for this bacteria. If someone did get it, it would most likely spread, but I’m sure we would be able to find a cure for it.
