Snackbots

October 30th, 2009

Have you ever wanted a snack school? Well scientists at Carnegie Mellon University have invented a robot called a “snackbot“. This robot is designed for bringing you a snack at school or work. The snackbot is not only used for serving food but it is also used for a research platform on robotics also. Now a snackbot is not you average sized robot, it is a lot smaller than a normal person, it does roll around on wheels though. This research will also allow the robot to navigate through areas in a social like way. This robot will be able to tell who you are, it will eventually get used to you and know who you are.  Now Carnegie Mellon University is now working on the “busybot” which will be designed to clean up messes. Specifically the plates and glasses that the workers or students use to eat.

Do you think that a “snackbot” is the new big thing?

Would you like Mazama to have snackbots?

Snackbot has two jobs. One is to serve as a research platform for projects in robotics, design, and behavioral science. The other is to serve snacks. Credit: Carnegie Mellon University

No i dont think its the new big thing, I think we will all have robots in the furture but not for a couple more years. Even though I think that would be really cool to have a “snackbot”

Yes I think that snackbots will be the next big thing but i don’t think that they should be. They are like a slave or servant in robot form and thats bacically the same as if it were human. They sould us the technology that the robot could get to know you in different robots or systems such as alarms for houses or cars.
I don’t want a snackbot at school because for one that could make the percentage for overweight teens go up.
Also it’s not like we will be able to eat in class just because we have a snackbot.

Yes I think that snack bot are going to be the next big thing because they bring snack to you and with the people getting lazier it will be a good thing. I think that mazama should get a snack bot because students get hungry during class and if we had a snack bot it would bring the snack right to you.

This “snackbot” sounds cool but it kind of sounds like a waste of potencial. if it can bring you food mabe we should program it to bring us tools if we are working on something, or help bring in groceries from your car. This robot is a good idea. We just need to apply it to other things to help out even more.

I think that the snack bot might just be the new thing. That is if people can afford them. I totally think that mazama should have snack bots. We could just have them bring us our favorite food during class.

I think that the idea of a “snackbot” is fun. I do not think that will become the next big thing tho. It would cost way to much money to produce them that no one could buy one.

If Mazama had a snackbot I think it would just get broken and we’d end up spending all of our money trying to first buy one, then trying to fix it after kids hurt it.

I think it really could be the next big thing, if robots weren’t so expensive. I think it would be interesting to have a “snackbot”, but not at the school. Teenagers are just rough and violent with things and you never know what would happen to it. Especially because it’s so expensive, who knows how much money you would be wasting if it got broken.
