Fitness Levels Decline With Age, Especially After 45

November 1st, 2009

All people know that your going to get old, but did you know that your fitness level will also decline, but maintaining a healthy body mass index, not smoking and being physically active are associated with higher fitness levels throughout adult life. Andrew S. Jackson, P.E.D., of the University of Houston found that Statistical models showed that while fitness levels declined continuously over time, the decrease was not linear or steady(cardiorespiratory fitness declined more rapidly after age 45).

The decline for men was greater than that for women and the U.S has more obese people every day and thats why we need to continue to stay healthy and excerise daily no matter how old or busy you are, because if you want to live longer you have to live healither too.

Do you think your parents or gaurdians are healthy and get enough excerise? Do you think you do?

What can we do to help make our lives healthier and more active?

I do think that my parents are healthy. My dad doesn’t eat as well as my mom because she really likes to eat organic where my dad isn’t really on board for that one. I think that my food choices could improve and I cound especially work harder in that area. To make our lives healthier and more active we could make healthier food choices and try to exercise more often. We can go for a jog or go to a local gym, but honestly we just need to make the effort to make our lives more healthy.

Yes and No for my parents in exercising regularly and eating healthy. We eat really healthy at home and rarely go out to eat for dinner and on the weekends. For the exercising part I have practice everyday after school and my parents try to exercise a couple times a week during lunch, but it’s hard for them when you don’t have the time all the time to get to the gym or get to go out for a run.

My family and I do exercise regularly, but we really do have to work on eating healthier. My mom works late and my dad doesn’t really know how to cook so it’s hard for our family to eat the right foods and get the nutrition we need. We could maybe go for a family walk in the evenings or we could go for a bike ride but we really do need to make a conscious effort to eat healthier.

I think my parents and I are very healthy but a lot aren’t. People need to walk more if they can orr ride a bike. They need to set a time every couple nights to exercise.

I think that people do need to eat healthier than they currently are. My family and I dont have the best diet ever but we rarely go out for fast food. And as far as exercising goes. You dont have to go to the gym. Just go outside and play a game or two. If nothing else it will help a little.

I think that I am healthy and get enough exercise, but i don’t know about my parents. I think that it should be more of a daily routine for people to exercise and be active. People these days rely on technology more then they should, thats why i think that the number of obese people these days have gone up.

Most of my family could definalty be healthier than we are now. That includes me, and I am working on being more active and eating right. I don’t know about my family though. I think that a lot of people are using more technology, (cell phones, computers, and TV) way more than they should. Because a lot of people have a TV in their house, they have a reason (or they think they do) to stay inside. It’s not healthy.

Not only does technology have a role to do with more overweight people, but I think all the fast food we all eat now is whats really causing all of this. Most people go out multiple times a week and if you all all that up with the fact that most of them dont exercise you will start to see why so many are obese. I think we need to start turning away from fast food and look to more healthy foods.

I think that my parents don’t get enough excercise. But neither do I. We’re all just so busy all the time! Maybe once tennis starts in the spring though, I’ll get more excercise. Some things we can do to live healthier lives are make excercising a part of our regular routine, make sure we’re eating healthy foods, and to not skip any meals.

I think my family dosen’t get enough exersize. We hardly ever go out for fast food but things you make can be just as unhealthy. We sometimes go out walking and me and my sister run, but we haven’t lately because we are so busy with school work and other activities. The nice thing is that when you do go you have alot of time to think or the rest of the world and your problems melt away for a while.

My mom is healthy and I am very healthy. A lot of people in the world struggle with obesity it is a common thing today. Everyone needs to be exercising more then there are to help everyone get a little healthier and we need to be eating healthier too. All the fast food and all the junk food now a days is make everyone less healthier and we need to change that starting with this generation.

I know for a fact that me and my family don’t get enough exercise. I do understand that we do need to exercise more but my family is always busy and sometimes trying to get healthier , it cost more money than some families can afford.

I think that alot of americans anymore are unhealthy and too dependant on technology. I have to say that my family and I dont eat the best but we are deffinately not overwieght and have no eating disorders. I think what americans have the most of a issue with is exersize it is difficult for adults to get exersize but they could eat less calories and exersize as much as possible.

I think that we could all change something in our eating habbits to make us all a little bit more fit and healthy. Food today is really hard to turn down when your hungry, your going to eat till your full so I do think that we have a problem with food. If we change a little bit in our diets though this problem should be to extreame.

Thats the problem with eating this day and age jonathan. Its way cheaper to eat the stuff thats bad for you than eating the healthy foods. Its 5 bucks for a pizza if you go and get one, but if you try to eat a well balanced meal it will cost you many times more per person. And in these bad economic times no one is going to spend more money just to eat better. This is why America has such poor health.
