Mom plus sickness equals smart kids

       Morning Sickness and Smart kids

Scientific American Mind

Have you ever thought that by your mother throwing up you could actually become smarter. Tests have been done that show that those moms who have morning sickness tend to have kids that have a higher cognitive thinking level.  Mom’s that don’t throw up don’t have dumb children, the kids just don’t have as high of numbers for cognitive thinking, though there numbers are still normal.

There has been some hypothesis of why that is. One hypothesis is that by throwing up our bodies don’t have as many calories which means that not as much insulin is needed in our bodies. Since there is no need for insulin, hormones boost. The more hormones we have developing the brain the better.

Do you think that this really plays a smart in smart kids? What do you think about the studies on the kids? Do you think that kids should be tested on for their intelligence levels of cognitive thinking?

I kind of doubt that being born to a mother who suffered morning sickness causes kids to be smarter. I could very well be wrong, but it is just kind of a hard thing to know for sure. I mean, there is mild morning sickness, moderate morning sickness, and then extreme morning sickness, with all kinds of levels in between, right? Plus, what one woman may count as mild morning sickness, another woman may count as moderate or even extreme morning sickness. So if every woman is different, and everyone reacts differently, then how can this test be accurate? Just an opinion though, doesn’t mean I am right.

That is why I am not very smart…! Just Kidding. :) I think that could play a part in how smart a kid is though. But I do think that it doesn’t because if you study you will get smart too. So there are many ways to say you are smart for some reason, I think a lot of them are just excuses.

No I don’t think that if moms through up then the kid is smarter and I don’t believe that anyone or anything should be tested expecially the kids or newborns of any animals or spiecies. Also the brain functions incuding how smart you are is subjective. You never know if a estimate is 100% right so it might be the exact opposite.

I have to agree. I really dont think that being sick when your pregnant will make a smarter baby. My mom was sick with me, but that doesnt mean it made me smarter. Not only that but I was also dropped on my head as a kid and I dont think that is a good thing for a developing brain. But I guess untill they do more studies we will never know for sure right?

Those are some weird statistics, but they are statistics, so they must be true. Hm… so your saying if I feed my mother bad food, she will get sick and throw up, and as she’s throwing up I will magically develop 10x the amount of brain cells that I’d normally develop. Makes perfect sense. I still don’t see how this at all would affect how smart you are.

They are many ways you can get smart and maybe this could be one but I don’t think that this plays a large role in if you are smart or not.

I doubt that being sick to a mother who suffered morning sickness can cause a kid to be smarter. If the study do more studies we might find out the definite answer, but until then I don’t think it is possible.

I think that maybe being sick does have a effect on a baby. I believe that the hormones developing the brain can have a possibility of helping with brain developement. It is possible. Till they find a deffinate answer everyone will have to stick to their own oppinions.

I think that it could, in some cases, cause your child to be a little smarter than most. The amount of hormones does afect your brain and if vomiting really does increase them then I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

I really doubt morning sickness has anything to do with how smart the kid will be. I don’t see how that could be possible. I guess we’ll need more studies to know for sure.

I think that it is only one of the ways that but I think that there are many more ways for kids to be smart but I also think that the kids try hard to be smart to they study and work hard to be smart. Because that is the way it is with me I am not really all that smart I work really hard to study and keep my grades up so I can be in honor and advanced classes.

I would not think that having a sick mom will make you smarter then normal. It just doesn’t make sense to be smarter when mom is sick, I mean imagine maybe they do better to stay away from mom.
