No ice on Mt. Kilimanjaro!!

November 5th, 2009

Do to the increasing temperatures the ice caps on Mount Kilimanjaro could be gone.  Lonnie Thompson, a glaciologist at Ohio State University’s Byrd Polar Research Center in Columbus and his fellow colleagues have been studying what has been happening to this mountain. From 1989 to the most recent survey in 2007, the ice-covered area dropped, on average, a huge 2.4 percent per year. People have been arguing if it is happening because of global warming or climate shift.  As fast as the ice is melting it could be completely gone by by 2022.

What do you think is causing the ice to melt?

How could we help slow down the ice form melting?

I think that global warming is one reason to the mountain to be melting. I do not think there is really any way to stop it from melting. God has a plan and everything happens for a reason.

Kilimanjoro is a dormant volcano. The ice melting could be a sign that it’s becoming active again so until a seismologist examines it I’m not gonna shout “global warming” from the rooftops.

I think that Global Warming is playing a huge part in the ice to melt. It’s the reason why the glaciers are melting and i bet it is the leading factor of this to. We can try to slow this down by cutting back on things that are major contributers in Global Warming and stop polluting the air.

People freak about too much about global warming. I think the world goes on a warm shift for a some thousand years then a cold for for another. I don’t think It’s a very big deal.

I think that it is melting because of global warming and I do not know what we can do to slow down the melting

I think that global warming is definatly a part of the ice melting. We should all be worried about this. Us as a country need to be thinking how we can improve our environment.

I think that global warming is probably the cause of the melting ice caps. I think that because it seems to be a reason for everything now a days and it’s probably true. We can prevent the ice caps from melting my going green, using less gas, and be less pollutant to the earth.

I think the ice is melting probably because of global warming. We could reduce the melting by being more involved in decreasing the rate of global warming.

The only way to stop the ice from melting is to stop polluting the air like we have been from burning fossil fuels. But even that might not help. If you look at the earths history you will see that it follows a pattern. Every so long it warms up, then it goes into an ice age. I think we might be getting close to another one as we speak.

I believe that global warming is a great factor for the melting ice. There may be a way to stop the ice from melting so fast. Our cars and factories and all dangerous things are what is causing global warming, if we slow down on things we may be able to slow the melting ice.
